New Omniplex Cinema to open at Belfast's Kennedy Centre

Omniplex Holdings, Irelands leading cinema operators, have signed an agreement with Hugh Kennedy of Belfast's Kennedy Centre to create an Omniplex 8 screen digital Cinema at the new redeveloped Kennedy Centre shopping complex in West Belfast.

This is only the 3rd complete digital cinema outlet in Northern Ireland, the others being the Omniplex at Dundonald and Omniplex at Armagh. The venue has a seating capacity of approx 1000 and will seek to cater for a wide range of cinematic audiences and to provide live entertainment for all age groups. Omniplex will showcase the latest blockbuster films and exploit new digital media in cinema with formats such as Digital 3D and major sporting events.

Paul Anderson, Managing Director of the Omniplex Group said "We are absolutely delighted to be opening the cinema in the Kennedy Centre. My father started the cinema in West Belfast nearly 20 years ago and I am thrilled to be able to carry on the relationship with the Kennedy family and bring the people of West Belfast into the next generation of digital cinema by providing a world class facility."

Hugh Kennedy, of the Kennedy Centre said "This is a great achievement for the Kennedy Centre and we are sure that the new cinema will be a hugely worthwhile addition to the Centre. In addition to the all the new leisure facilities, Funky Monkeys and food court, it will allow the centre to become a destination not just for retail shopping but also for first class leisure activity, something that has been missing in the area".

Both Mr Anderson and Mr Kennedy agreed "It is a major development for the area and the investment of nearly 2.5 million will be a great boost to the local community providing more jobs for local people along with providing a first class cinema experience for the area." The very latest sound processors, digital projectors and amplifiers will give patrons a first class cinematic experience at the new cinema.

Work has already commenced on the new cinema and we hope to be ready to open to the community by early summer.
